This year, something a little different for the holidays.
First we go back to November and discuss this year's Christmas Show, The Clauses on Disney Plus. Tim Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell, and did the Elves eat Mrs Claus?
And then we look back at the 29 episode one we covered in 2022, and discuss our top 5 shows we ended up enjoying the most!
Steve:
1. Single Drunk Female
2. Fleishman is in Trouble
3. The Dropout
4. Reboot
5. Ms Marvel and Shoresy
Chris
1. Peacemaker
2. Quantum Leap
3. The Dropout
4. Ms Marvel
5. Single Drunk Female
Fleishman is in Trouble? who you gonna call? Chris and Steve apparently.
Based on a recent high profile novel, it's another fantastic Hulu miniseries, with a fantastic cast.
And with stakes this high, Chris and Steve watched Two Episodes! Does the extra context change their review? Can Fleishman escape trouble?
All this, plus Crossovers and 30 second pitches on the Episode One Podcast
This week we have a returning special guest. Chris's ten year old son, Troy!
He watched Star Wars Episode One : The Phantom Menace, so we break from our tradition of not actually talking about Star Wars Episode One, to discuss Star Wars Episode One.
Then We talk more about movies, and the show that loves them, Blockbuster, on Netlfix!
Starring Randall Park, Melissa Fumero and featuring JB Smoove, we were pretty excited about this one. How did it hold up?
We also debut a new feature, pitch and alternate backstory for this character!
It's October, and that means one thing! Vampires! We got the interviews, we got the academy, we may have forgotten to let the right one in...
First we, briefly, discuss the Peacock reboot of the illfated Movie Adaptation of the YA Novel series, Vampire Academy... It's ok, but we don't discuss it long.
Then we discuss another Book turned Movie turned TV Show, Anne Rice's classic, Interview with the Vampire. How does a book from 1976 that became a 1994 movie translate as a 2022 TV Series?
All this plus we get into some Crossovers and 30 second pitches.
Happy Halloween!
Last week we talked fake reboot, this week we dive into a sequel/reboot and a prequel!
Quantum leap is a reboot of the classic 1980s show that also serves as a sequel show. Steve and Chris dive in with our limited knowledge of the original and discuss the format, the tropes and whether it's got us hooked.
Andor is a prequel to the film Star Wars: Rogue One. We discuss a little bit of Star Wars overload, and whether the moody drama drew us in. We also discuss multi episode premieres and whether they need to be judged as a whole.
We also do some fun crossovers and pitch the next quantum leap.
No, we're sorry they are not rebooting Star Wars: Episode One the Phantom Menace.
But they are rebooting yours, mine and everyone's favorite sitcom, Step Right Up!
Wait, I'm being told that wasn't a real sitcom?
I don't care, I'm here for it, Staring Rachel Bloom, Keegan Michael-Key, Judy Greer, Johnny Knoxville and Paul Reiser, the new Hulu show Reboot is a blast!
We have Screeners! Thank you Hulu for giving us access to Tell Me Lies so we can bring it to the audience on release day!
We've done a few shoes, many of them Hulu in this vein. Based off a book (Little Fire Everywhere, Nine Perfect Strangers) Toxic Relationship (Cruel Summer), Horny (Normal People). It's great to do a show that combines elements of most of our most popular episodes!
We're here to watch with you, discuss Tell Me Lies, what hooked us, what didn't work, and of course whether we're watching more.
Let us know what you thought of Tell Me Lies (episodeonepod@gmail.com)
A couple firsts in this episode. First a show Steve hasn't watched, and second a british show that is exclusive to Hulu and Star+
Can Chris convince Steve to watch Wedding Season, without giving away the episode 1 twist?
Then Steve and Chris review the last year of Episode ones, going back to 154, as a preview of our Next episode. Tell Me Lies
Another month, another Marvel show. But this one is a bit of a fresh take, as it's the first proper comedy!
The boys (not not those boys) dig in and take a look at what worked (the lawyering surprisingly) What didn't (besides the CGI). and discuss how this fits into the current "meta" of Marvel TV. We also discuss HBO Max turmoil for a little bit, and then dig into some crossovers and 30 second pitches.
Don't call it a come back.
The 3rd PLL spinoff is here, and we have our resident PLL Expert Steve ready to go.
Brought to us by the depraved mind of Roberto Aguire-Sacasa, this is a dark horror type take on the Teen drama.
Is it Dark than Riverdale and Sabrina? Can it live up to the original. What property should Roberto remake next?
All this and more on the Episode One Podcast.
Today we have a 3 for 1. 3 shows featuring strong female leads.
We start off talking about the Lana Condor led Boo Bitch on Netflix, a miniseries with a strong premise.
Then we discuss the Phoebe Robinson vehicle, based off her book, Everything's Trash.
Then we close with A show originally scheduled for ABC, but now on Hulu, Maggie!
It's a fun ride, we cover each show fairly quickly (for us) then get into some pitches for shows that combine all three premises.
Enjoy this week's Episode One Podcast!
Welcome, to the Disney + Podcast... Well not exactly, but can you blame us when they're pumping out hit after hit?
This week another comic book show (our specialty) as we take on Ms Marvel.
To summarize our take, Chris's wife, who hates shows about teenagers, loved this pilot!
We also have some pretty good crossovers and pitches this week!
Not even Covid could stop us... though it could delay us, from fulfilling our destiny and reviewing a show starring the hero of Star Wars Episode One... this podcast's namesake if you believe Steve.
So, how is the much-awaited show? Can it hold up to things, and did this show inadvertently create the Flea multiverse?
all this and more on this Star Wars episode one podcast.
"So what is Shoresy?" "well it's" "Huh?" "Well it's a spin off of Letterkenny"
You'll get it once you watch it.
Perhaps the most Canadian show we've ever done (It's as canadian as Normal People was Irish).
Join us as we recap the pilot (having never watched letterkenny) and sort of fall in love with Sudbury.
Also we obviously cross this over with the Mighty Ducks.
Mike Myers is back! Mike Myers? Hard to believe he hasn't done comedy basically in 14 years, but he is back, with a Netflix Show.
Chris and Steve try to dissect, is it funny? does it work? is it for us, or just for Mike Myers?
One of the most interesting shows we've done on the Episode One Podcast in awhile, The Pentaverate, plus crossovers and 30 second pitches.
What's real? Is Obi-Wan real? Is this podcast? Is Steve?
Moon Knight is here, perhaps the biggest leap the Marvel Cinematic universe has taken thus far... or at least in terms of TV Shows.
How does the show stack up to previous Marvel shows with more established characters? How does the Star power of Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke fare?
And is this show more proof that the Freeform Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are one and the same?
All this plus crossovers and 30 second pitches
Fresh off the Oscars, we're here to talk about Oscar Host Amy Schumer! Well, we also talk a little about other stuff that happened that night.
But then Back to Amy Schumer, she has a new show on Hulu, and the Episode One Podcast was curious, so we dive in!
We also found another Comic book Show! Can you believe it? DMZ, based off the Brian Wood - Riccardo Burchielli Vertigo series, adapted into a miniseries starring Rosario Dawson!
An eclectic pair of show this week, and we may have had a bit more fun talking about them than we did watching them.
Join us, won't you? On this week's Episode One Pdcast!
A new record for us, 3 shows, almost under one hour!
We debated doing one big crossover and having the show be "Winning flags dropout" but, that was too confusing, even for us.
This week we discuss the Hulu docudrama about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos, a docu drama about the 80s Showtime Lakers, AND a somewhat based on a true story about pirates!
It's here! The 155th Episode Spectacular!
We take a look at two great new episode ones, Bel-Air, the reimagining of The Fresh Prince, and Single Drunk Female, the latest addition to the Freeform Cinematic Universe.
We also take a look back at shows we've watched more, and there are quite a few!
Also Crossovers, and a 30 second pitch for the ages... Is Bel-Air the real story and Fresh Prince was the "How I met your Mother" style retelling?
And we thought we picked two shows with nothing in common? Both shows are all about fathers! Sure in one you don't know the father is, but in the other the father is a Nazi Asshole!
Remember in December when we were afraid of Comic Book Tv Show overload? Turns out the Cure is James Gunn!
And the sequel show/spinoff/reboot continues. Does it work this time?
All this and crossovers and 30 second pitches!
There are two types of shows the episode one podcast must do.
Comic book shows and Star Wars shows.
Boba Fett is back, the Mandalorian isn't yet. This is the second live action Star Wars show, how does it hold up. Can it differentiate itself from the Mandalorian, or is it more of the same? (not that more Mando would be bad).
Also a lot of takes on Star Wars Episode One, the other thing we discuss. All this plus 30 second pitches and Crossovers!
